Numerous adjectives are associated with the town of Sopron:
the “TOWN OF LOYALTY”, the “CAPITAL OF BLAUFRäNKISCH”, the “GATE TO THE WEST”. The locals also invented snappy sayings for their beloved town, e.g.: if you see the barren or snow-capped peak of the Schneeberg, it will rain, if you don't see it, it is already raining. And besides, in Sopron it either rains or the wind blows or they ring the bells.
But of course, the wind doesn't always blow in Sopron and this wonderful town offers countless sights and experiences.

At the end of the 19th century the richest, wine-trading families in Sopron (Russ, Flandorffer, Lenck) started to build luxurious city villas in Sopron.
Benedictine (Goat) church and Chantry hall
In the heart of the town centre, on the Main Square you can find one of the most famous and oldest churches in the historic centre, the Goat Church.
The Castle Wall Promenade and the Castle District
The Sopron castle wall and town wall is unique in Hungary, because it has been here since Roman times, for 1600 years, defining the image of the historical downtown (Castle District) and the outer side of the castle wall, the Castle District.
Holy Trinity Statue (Plague Column)
The Holy Trinity statue, which adorns the Main Square with its unparalleled beauty, is a special attraction of Sopron for two reasons.
The Sopron Petőfi Theatre
It is the most beautiful Art Nouveau building in Sopron, the scene of the Sopron theatre art for more than a century and a half.
One of the oldest public parks in Hungary was named Elizabeth in 1899 in honour of the queen who died a tragic death. The area, which has been protected since 1942, is home to several special plants, an outstanding specimen of sierra redwood, which is the tallest one in Hungary.
Medieval Old Synagogue
The Jews of Sopron settled in the former Zsidó utca (Jewish Street) that is now Új utca, and around 1300 the synagogue of the community, the Old Synagogue was established.
Sörházdomb (Beer Hill) Lookout Tower
The Sörházdomb lookout tower is the only one of the Park Forest lookouts that has a bolted wooden structure made of glued brackets, making it an architecturally unique piece.
Károly Lookout Tower
It is the centre and most visited place of the Park Forest in Sopron, and today it is the second symbol of the town of Sopron after the Fire Tower.
Perhaps the most special attraction of Sopron is the Taród Castle, also called Fool's Castle and Owl Castle. For the most part, it is the 50-year work of one single man, István Taródi, who used 150-200 railway cars of stones and bricks in the course of the construction until his death in 2010.
Church of St. Michael
The oldest parish church of Sopron that stands on St. Michael's Hill was founded in the 13th century, before the Mongol invasion.
Sopronbánfalva Pauline-Carmelite Monastery and Church of the Queen of Heaven
Through the Stairs of the Saints, a road leads to the Pauline-Carmelite Monastery and the Queen of Heaven Church in Sopronbánfalva.
Cobblestone Children's Museum (Eggenberg House)
The Eggenberg House, located at 12 Szent György Street, a building that has played a significant role in the town's church history, is now home to the Cobblestone Children's Museum.
Central Mining Museum
The Central Mining Museum opened in October 1957 in the Esterházy Palace in the centre of Sopron. The house of medieval origin at the beginning of Templom Street was the residence of the town captains until 1631.
The Fire Tower is a symbol of the town of Sopron. It has Roman foundations, its cylindrical part is medieval, its balcony and clock tower are Renaissance, its dome is Baroque. Its Loyalty Gate frames the 2,000-year history of the town centre.
Setting out from Lővér Hotel and laid out along some 3300 metres, the Váris Walk joins Ojtozi Promenade to arrive back at its starting point.
Cyclamen nature trail
It was the first nature trail in Hungary, named after the forest cyclamen native to the Sopron area.

Lily of the Valley Nature Trail
The 3.5-kilometer-long nature trail, starting from the Tómalom Bath, presents the flora and fauna of the Szárhalmi Forest with beautifully designed information boards at 8 demonstration stations.
