Sopronkövesd

Its first written mention dates from 1326, the time of king Károly Róbert. It was also owned by the Kemény, Kanizsay and Nádasdy families over the centuries, and in 1677 it became the property of the Széchényi family. From the rich annual program offer of the village, The “Pünkövesd” attracts many visitors at Pentecost and in September the Cultural Heritage Days is a frequented event as well. A popular cycling leisure event is the “On the Route of Chapels” cycling tour, which includes sacral sites of the Pre-Alps.

Agg Hill and the Kotecs Park Forest

Archival sources from the beginning of the 17th century mention the vineyard hill called Agg Hill by the locals and the wines grown here. On the hill there is a small chapel built in the first half of the 18th century, which was named after King St. Ladislaus in 1995. The locals are careful owners of the park forest created with the support of TAEG Zrt. In the charming park forest, the old oak trees and the black pine trees planted in memory of the 13 martyrs of Arad are noteworthy. In early spring a post-winter flower carpet welcomes hikers on the marked hiking trails. Nearby you will also find the last memory of the former narrow-gauge horse-drawn railway, the Cifra Bridge and a reconstructed section of the Iron Curtain that once stretched here. The Kotecs park forest got its name from the hunting lodge of the Széchényi manor, which once stood here, by Hungarianising the word "cottage". After your tour, on the site of the hunting lodge you can relax in a cosy park at the Széchényi well.

House of Creation

It has been open to lovers of culture since the autumn of 2014, where regular exhibitions, playhouses, prose, music and stage performances await those interested. Every year on 20 August, the new bread is baked in the “village stove” in the courtyard. In its park you can find local plant species, among which it is a real experience to relax. In the attic of the house there is also an accommodation for 15 guests at a time.

Kisboldogasszony Church

Located in the centre of the village, the church was built in 1806 by Count Széchényi Ferenc. The main altar construction lined with Corinthian columns dates from the 1810s and is of Neo-Romanesque style. Next to it on both sides you can see the baroque statues of King St. Ladislaus and St. Stephen.
