Sea Aster Nature Trail

Visitors to the educational trail can get acquainted with the living community of the saline steppe and lakes, as well as with the role of old Hungarian domestic animals in the conservation and utilization of protected areas.

The route guides the hiker through the saline pastures grazed by Hungarian gray cattle, racka sheep and domestic buffalos, passing along the shallow water saline lakes. The nature trail leading to the saline steppe area, 7 km north of Sarród, is a nearly 4 km long hiking and cycling trail. It has two starting points:

1) At the flood gate of the Hanság main canal, between Sarród and Fertőújlak
2) At the István Csapody Nature School, at the border of Fertőújlak.

There are several bird-watching towers on the nature trail. Of these, the Eurovelo 13 (Iron Curtain) cycle path is especially recommended, if you want to enjoy the panorama of the shallow saline lakes dotted with islands and the rich birdlife in the Borsod lane.
