Hany Istók Nature Trail

The 5 km long nature trail is located halfway between Osli and Bősárkány, and its starting point is at the Esterházy bird watchpoint.

In 1928, 4 bird watchpoints were established in Hungary to promote ornithological research with systematic ringing. This centre was named after Pál Esterházy, hence the name Esterházy Bird Watchpoint. Prior to the drainage of the Hanság, there were several small lakes in the area, one of the largest of which was the King Lake (Király-tó), which folk tradition considered to be a very deep, bottomless lake. On the information boards you can learn about the flora and fauna of the Hanság and the peat mining that used to take place here. In the wall of a nearby sand mine, you will see the nesting place of the colourful bee-eaters.
