Sopron Advent 2025

From November 28 to December 24, 2025, a variety of Advent programmes will make the Christmas season in Sopron truly memorable.

Informations about this year’s Sopron Advent:

  • The Advent Fair will be open from 28 November to 24 December, generally between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM (on the Main Square from Friday to Sunday, and on Várkerület every day of the week)
  • More than 25 vendors will be welcoming visitors throughout the market area.
  • The city’s Christmas tree will once again stand on Várkerület. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their generous tree donations! The lights will be switched on Friday, 28 November at 6:00 PM. A surprise awaits at the opening ceremony – it’s worth bringing the children along!
  • A heated and covered tent at the Statue of Mary will make for cosy conversations, so the market is worth visiting even in colder weather.
  • The Advent wreath will be located on the Main Square, where the festive candles will be lit every Sunday at 6:00 PM (except on 14 December, Loyalty Day, when the lighting will begin at 5:00 PM).
  • The Nativity scene will also be on the Main Square, and from there, free sightseeing trains will depart, offering an atmospheric 20-minute ride through the illuminated old town.
  • The popular free Advent concerts and performances at the Church of Our Lady (Benedictine Church) will continue this year as well. Cultural programmes will take place every Advent Saturday and Sunday between 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM.
  • Once again, 24 children’s drawings will decorate the city’s festive calendar, displayed at the main entrance of the Liszt Center. The Pro Kultúra Advent drawing contest is still ongoing – submissions are open until 16 November.
